When upgrading video cards from the same company is it just plug and play?

I'm upgrading from an nvidia 7600gt to an evga 9600gt gpu. Since they both use the same drivers, i am assuming that when i install the new one it should work without doing anything.. Am i correct in thinking this?|||It might but I always delete the old drive and install the new driver that comes with the card.I also do an update for it.|||you are correct in the state that you plug it in and thats it but no they do not use the same drivers the card should come with its own updated drivers if not you can go to the manufactuers website and download them from there.

hope this helps good luck bud|||Not sure Mark since we don't know what internal setup configuration might take place in the driver installation. You say they use the same driver but does that mean any/all configuration settings are the same also??

I'd rather do a clean install and use the cd that comes with it.

Good Luck|||The video card will work, but you would not get the full use of your new card until you download the latest drivers.

Usually within a family the drivers are all included. For instance going from a 7600 to a 7900 your computer probably would already have the drivers for it. But going to the 9600 your computer only has the generic drivers.

You can download the ones you need from Nvidia. Just tell it what kind of card you have and it will get you the drivers.
