Are laptops usually easy to upgrade video cards on?

Hello! I'm considering buying a Toshiba e105 laptop. They have good reviews, they only complaint is that the video card is very weak. Would I be able to upgrade the video card to say, a 1gb ATI video card? How do you know?

Thanks! :)|||Usually laptop manufacturers allows to upgrade video cards and video accelerator only on high performance model. but buddy I am not sure about Toshiba e105 series. You better contact your manufacturer for more info.|||no|||Generally speaking, NO.|||The video in a laptop is typically integrated, and no ports are available for expansion. Unless you can solder as perfectly as a machine, the reconfigure everything to accommodate it (quick hint: not happening), you're probably out of luck there.|||Unless they offer that upgrade when you customize it, no.

Laptop Graphics are soldered in the motherobard, even if they are discreet.|||Integrated video cards= No.

Dictated video cards= Replaceable.

What to do to upgrade video card on pc?

Ok so I got the sims 3 for pc. I have a Dell Windows XP. I tried running it and it said i had to to support shader module 2 I think. Ok so apparently I have to buy a new on. But I have a few questions about that.

1: Where would I buy one at?

2: Are there a lot of models or kinds? If so, how do I know which kind/size is best for my computer?

3: After purchased, how do I got about installing the new video card?

Please also add any extra info you know about this kinda stuff cause it confuses me. And try to explain it as best as you can. As you can see, computers are not my forte. Pleeeease help me understand what I have to doooo! Thanks a lot :D|||1. Since you don't seem to know what you are doing or what you want; i suggest that you go to a store rather than online. Best Buy is very helpful with this kind of stuff.

2. There aren't too many out there, and they all have the same trend: High Price -> High Performance...Cheap Video Card -> Cheap Graphics. So it comes down how much you want to pay.

3. first unplug everything from the computer. then hold down the power button for about 15 seconds (this makes sure there is no extra power hiding around to shock you!). Take out the old one (just so you know, it is the card that the monitor was plugged into), and remember where it was! NOTE: When ever you are dealing with expensive computer stuff; don't touch the shiny parts; like the gold end that makes contact with you mother board. OK, so once you pushed the new card in, look to see if it needs anything extra; if there are wires on the card that need to be put in. If there are wires, you can plug them in anywhere that fits (because those cords should just be extra power for the card) . Plug everything in and turn on the computer! If you can't see anything, (whenever you mess with the computer's insides, unplug everything and then hold the power button) try pushing the card down more, sometimes it requires a fair amount of force! Once it is working install the drivers. there may be a disk that comes with it, if not go to the card's website and look for your specific drivers.

If you still have problems, post it on yahoo answers and call best buy or what ever.! GL|||Ok, buying one on EBay is normally a good idea.

If you type in Graphics card, and find one with at LEAST 512Mb of memory, that is a good start. Also, Make sure it is a Nvidia 8800GT or better (GTS/GTX are better, as are the 260) So if the number is bigger than 8800 or bigger than 260 but less than 600.

If you want an ATI card, then try a 4850 or better (bigger numbers)

It's probably best to go to a hardware store and get one if you are unsure though. Ask them for the cheapest graphics card better than an 8800GT they have.

Remember it must have more than 512MB of RAM! (on the card).

To install it:

It is probably easier to get a professional to do it, as pushing things in the wrong places/touching the wrong things can cause permanent damage to your computer!

IF you want to do it yourself, follow this guide:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc81zcpPo…

If you don't have an anti-static bracelet, keep the case plugged in (but turn off the power at the socket, then touch the case before you pick up anything! :)

What to upgrade: video card or cpu?

Hi,

I'd like to upgrade my PC, but my budget is limited. So I am wondering what should I get first:

GTX560Ti Video card

or

i5 2500k CPU?

I like to play games, so which part would improve the performance better?

I realize, that cpu upgrade is more costly, but I am going to upgrade both anyway, so it is just a matter of time.

My current setup:

Intel E8400 @ 3.6 GHz

6GB RAM

MSI HD5770 Hawk video card.

I suppose, that the question could be rephrased like this:

What part in my current setup is limiting the performance in games?

Looking forward for your answers and arguments.|||That's sort of a tough one for me. Your video card that you have right now is decent, and certain games may not benefit that much from a multi-core processor (the E8400 is a dual-core and the Core i5 is a quad-core).

I say you should get the video card first because your processor is still pretty good as it is, and when the time comes, you can upgrade to the Core i5 and have the best of both worlds. It's to my understanding that a better video card with a better GPU will give you better performance when you're playing games. And many games, including newer ones don't really demand an extremely powerful processor, so it's all about the video card pretty much.|||going from the MSI HD5770 to the GTX560Ti won't make a huge difference, actually the MSI has a faster memory bandwidth and clock speed.

If you want to get the i5, you would need to change the motherboard and the RAM too. the i5 has a different socket than the E8400, and requires DDR3 RAM.

So apart from buying a completely new system, the biggest speed boost you can give your PC is installing an SSD. It will speed up gaming a bit by making them load faster and go from level to another quicker. It won't increase your FPS though.|||The part that is MOST responsible for good gaming performance is the video card. Having said that, for the video card to be able to perform at its best, you need to have a CPU that can keep up with it.

The weak point in your system is the CPU. The 5770 is a decent video card. Not great but capable of good gaming on medium settings.

Like already mentioned, you cannot upgrade your CPU to an i5 2500K without getting a new socket 1155 motherboard and some DDR3 RAM. Your current motherboard cannot fit the i5 and your DDR2 RAM needs to be DDR3 to work with the i5.

Getting a better video card would be a waste of money if paired with your current E8400.

You have some options, you could get a Core 2 Quad CPU and put that in your current motherboard. That will work, even if you have to flash your BIOS for it to work. But it will significantly slower than the i5 2500K. I'm actually running a fairly quick Core 2 Quad with a 6970 and my gaming performance is very respectable. So while the i5 2500K is blisteringly fast, a good Core 2 Quad really can perform quite well in games. At the same time though, if you buy a Core 2 Quad, you're buying a CPU that is two generations old already.

Your other option is to wait, save up and get the i5 2500K, a socket 1155 motherboard plus some DDR3 RAM. But to be honest, by the time you do that, you may as well buy a whole new system.

Upgrading Video cards...?

I have an ati radeon x1300xge video card but i want to upgrade to a newer card. any suggestions as to what card would be best? i'm looking for a cheap, reliable one.|||whats cheap for you? it also matters what you want to do. I recommend if you want to game with this card the Geforce 8800GTX G92. This I believe was the only good GTX that nvidia made.

What you can also do is go to newegg.com and highlight under computer hardware look for video card and video devices. see what card fits your needs and look at the ratings and stuff

Hope this helped|||It all depends on what socket you have, if you have an AGP motherboard, i highly recommend the X1950 pro. If you have a PCI-E motherboard, go for either the nVidia 8800GTS or the 8600GT.

Hope i've helped.|||x1650 from newgg or ebuyer(uk only)

Looking to upgrade video card & power supply on my current system?

I'm going to be upgrading my video card on my computer, and power supply as well since my current one isn't powerful enough to support the card I'm getting, a 6950. I have a few questions about whether it's compatible or not. My setup:

Motherboard: MSI MS-7526

CPU: Core 2 Duo E7400 - Stock speed: 2.8GHz, OC'd at 3.2GHz

RAM: 4GB DDR2 Dual-Channel @ 381MHz (Sad, I know) 5-5-5-15

Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Current Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870

Windows 7

So the specific card I was looking at is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

And the power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

So I want to make sure this is compatible with my computer, and also whether or not you think the power supply will last another generation of video cards? I know that the 6950's recommended power is 500w only because of low-quality power supplies out there, so my 650w Corsair should last at least the next gen of cards, right? I was planning to upgrade the rest of my system a little later after getting this so I'll have more updated parts after that for next gen components. Also, will my CPU bottleneck the GPU? How much of an effect will it have if it does bottleneck it? And finally, I know it sounds silly but, will the PSU be able to connect fine to my current parts? Any extra advice would be welcome as well. Thanks for all this in advance.|||This upgrade is fine. No need to worry about any of your questions. Very nice upgrade.|||Well your For Today's gaming u need min quad core CPU,

In motherboard must go for SLI or CROSSFIRE.

Supply and Video card u choose are pretty Decent.

Good Luck.|||Get like a 480 and an Intel 2600k or some decent i7. But, if you have a low budget then get ATi and AMD.|||3.2ghz dual core is a bit weak, you may not notice any improvment.

the 667mhz ram is not weak, it games the same as 2000mhz ram.

I'd grab a TX650w V2 or XFX 650w Core. Less expensive, newer, seasonic, bronze as well and just better.

Upgrading video card on computer?

I was looking at two computers first one is

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilio…

And second is

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/eMachines+-+…

my main concern is that they both have terrible video cards and i would like to do some gaming(team fortress 2,borderlands,brink when it comes out) so i was wondering if on number 1 i could swap the radeon hd 3000 with a radeon hd 5450. My second question is if i would be able to swap the GeForce 6150 se on the second with a GeForce GT240. If i am able to do both the swaps then i will buy the one with the geforce. What do you guys think about the rest of the computer(number 2).|||On computer 1, you only have one available expansion slot, and it's only a PCIe x1... so no you cant upgrade basically anything on that one.

As for the second computer, it's still not compatible. The card is PCIe 2.0 x16, and the motherboard only has PCIe 1.0 x16.

If you already have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, get this setup:

Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Yes it is about $125 more than the second one, but it allows for better upgrading if you're ever in the mood (you can upgrade from i3 3.2 GHz dual core, to i7 3.4 GHz quad core, as well as a few other things), and it can even run Crysis 2 on medium-high settings.|||ok one thing you need to buy the computer open it up and see if it has a pcie x16 2.0 port and im pretty sure it doesent

and this is what i suggest you get if your looking for price range

Upgrading Video Card. Will it fit?

Hey guys, I am looking to upgrade my computer for some gaming! Now I've done a little digging around and I just have a few questions before I make a purchase. (Sorry, I am new to this!)

I have these 3 video cards picked out.

a) http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-5770V3&title=Sapphire-Radeon-HD5770-1GB-DDR5-2DVI-HDMI-DisplayPort-PCI-Express-Video-Card

b) http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AS-450_GD5&title=Asus-nVidia-GeForce-GTS450-1GB-DDR5-VGA-DVI-HDMI-PCI-Express-Video-Card

c) http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=MSI-980GT1&title=MSI-nVidia-GeForce-9800GT-1GB-DDR3-VGA-DVI-HDMI-PCI-Express-Video-Card

I looked up reviews for each one and I am leaning towards the Asus nVidia GeForce 450GTS, as it is a great deal and the benchmarks looked acceptable.

- WILL THESE CARDS FIT?!

- BUT, will these cards give me the juice I want?? I am hoping to be able to play games like Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, and Arkham City on maximum settings at 1280x1024 without problem. And I am going to need to be able to tackle Skyrim and Battlefield 3 on at least medium-high settings later on this year.

- Which IS the best for the price?

- And I understand I need a new PSU as I am at 300W. Whats a good wattage and/or power supply unit I should go with?

Here are my specs.

I suggest that you save a little more to get the GTX460 instead, it's quite a bit better yet still doesn't cost a fortune. Buy the 1GB version if you choose this card, the 768MB version has a narrower memory bus and is slower.|||Laptop computers are popular with people of all computing habits, from casual users to hardcore gamers. As more media applications such as games and movies are used by laptop owners, many people feel the need to have the video card in their laptop upgraded so that they can run the latest media and games. If you have a laptop and want to upgrade the video card, you may be able to do so.

1

Contact your laptop manufacturer to determine if laptop's video card can be upgraded. Unless you purchase a high-end or gaming laptop, the video card is usually not upgradable because it is integrated directly into the motherboard of the computer. Higher-end and gaming laptops have discrete video cards that can oftentimes be upgraded if the laptop manufacturer chose to produce an upgraded model of the video card. If the laptop is unable to have its video card upgraded, you'll have to buy a new laptop to get an upgraded video card.

2

Purchase an upgraded video card directly from the manufacturer. Laptop video cards are specially designed and made by the laptop manufacturers and are generally available only from the manufacturers themselves. You may be able to find them on auction sites or from third-party dealers, but to ensure that the card works properly with your laptop model, you should go through your computer manufacturer.

3

Find out if the card is user-serviceable or not. If it is, you will be sent the part and can install it yourself by taking apart the laptop computer, removing the old video card and putting the new one in. If not, then you may have to pay an additional fee to have the laptop manufacturer send a technician to install the video card for you.

Sli or upgrade video card?

I got a 9800 GTX + , i was looking at upgrading to something affordable yet faster.

I was looking at stats on gtx 250 or so , and it didn't look like much of a difference. Should i just sli and get another 9800 GTX to run with the one i have already?|||I Dont know the prices, but if they are about the same prices, i would suggest another 9800 and sli it.

I'm thinking of buying a new desktop. Will 1GB run Windows Vista Premium and do I need an upgraded video card.

1 GB will run Vista Premium - barely. Two would be better. If you're planning to use the Aero interface, I'd highly recommend an upgraded video card with at least 256 MB of memory onboard and preferably 512 MB.|||I agree with all posts 2gb is min. for vista. 3 would be the way to go if you can.

Few computer makers are still trying to sell vista with 512 mb My opinion its criminal.|||1G will run win vista but I would recomend 2G... and depends on the video card... most Machines now will come pre-loaded with Vista....|||I just bought a system from Sam's Club (linked below) that was 1GB or RAM and MS Windows Vista Home Premium. Out of the box, it hasn't been too bad as a general usage machine. It certainly doesn't work well for video games though. In my case, the system uses an integrated video card that doesn't perform very well for games. Actually it didn't work very well with MS Vista Aero (the new graphical environment from Microsoft), but I disabled it anyways - who need "eye candy" over performance. I do plan to install a new video card (was thinking of the nVidia 7600 GS for around $80) as it should handle most of the games my family plays.

So far though, can't say that MS Vista impresses me much (bought the systems this past Saturday 8/25). In fact some of the changes seem to be changes just for the sake of making it different with no real improvement in function or performance. I'll be giving it a bit more time but if I'm still not sold on Vista, I'll be switching it to MS Windows XP.|||I wouldn't go with anything under 2GB for Vista. I've run it on 1GB but it likes 2 a lot better. I also suggest you go with a video card instead of onboard. An Nvidia 8600 series with 256MB will suffice if youre not into hardcore gaming 512MB if you are. . Its always good to buy your puter with the upgrades already in place in case you have a warranty issue as places like Dell love to say your warranty is void if you add aftermarket hardware to it.|||I would say 1GB of RAM is the bare minimum for running Windows Vista. The operating system consumes roughly 500MB of that RAM, not leaving very much for running other applications.

Is the Ram DDR or DDR2? This makes a difference. DDR2 Ram is much faster and your system would perform much better with 1GB of DDR2 Ram than DDR Ram. Still, I would recommend 2GB if you are going to be doing intensive gaming, or video editing or anything of that sort.

As for the graphics card, I don't know what type of card you have now so I can't tell you if you need a new one. If your asking if you can use the same card that you had using XP, then the answer is yes. No need to change cards just because you're changing operating systems.

Now, if you used XP instead of Vista, you'd be fine. Windows XP operating system uses less than half what Vista does, which would leave much more free Ram available for other tasks.

Hope this helps...

Currently I have a Radeon Xpress 200 series. I want to play World of Warcraft, and that card will not let me do it. hope this helps good luck bud|||Not sure Mark since we don't know what internal setup configuration might take place in the driver installation. You say they use the same driver but does that mean any/all configuration settings are the same also??

I'd rather do a clean install and use the cd that comes with it.

Good Luck|||The video card will work, but you would not get the full use of your new card until you download the latest drivers.

Usually within a family the drivers are all included. For instance going from a 7600 to a 7900 your computer probably would already have the drivers for it. But going to the 9600 your computer only has the generic drivers.

You can download the ones you need from Nvidia. Just tell it what kind of card you have and it will get you the drivers.

I need advice for upgrading video cards?

Hi, I currently run two GeForce 7600gs video cards with SLI. I'm thinking about upgrading but money is a major factor. I was looking at picking up two 9500gt's or gs's but I dont know if thats the right bang for my buck. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.|||Simple. First, decide exactly how much you want to spend. Then, check the Best Graphics Card For The Money by TomsHardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/rade… Check the $120 - $190 section, since I assume that is your budget with the pair of 9500GTs you picked out. Personally, I think the GTX 260 is a lot of bang for the buck. If you go with that, make sure you get the 216 version. Otherwise the 9800GTX+ or the GTS 250 are really good options. No reason to do SLi with a couple of cheaper 9500s when you can have better performance with one card at the same price as the two 9500s. You can always add another GTS 250 or GTX 260 later.

Can I upgrade video card for Acer Aspire 5520-5912 from GeForce 7000(an integrated card) to GeForce 8600 GT?

You cant install a video card in a notebook PC. You need to buy a high end laptop with a video card already installed from like Alienware or a Dell XPS M1710. Its not like a desktop where just about any PC will work with just about any video card. Most laptops(like yours) have onboard video chipsets. Only high end laptops have an actual video card & even then they cant be upgraded to a differant card.

Here is a link to a card that should improve your graphics performance considerably. Unfortunately, it is also about as top-end as you could go, with the specs listed for your machine. I can't say for sure, but I doubt you could play games like Crysis and GTA IV at anything more than low settings with this card. It does support DX 10 and Open GL 2.0, with GDDR3, so it will last at least for a little while. To get anything better would require a complete PC upgrade.

Edit: If you really want to, you can get a PCIe X 16 2.0 card. The card slot would drop it's effectiveness down, since it would only connect at half the speed (you have a 1.0 slot). I personally don't think the extra money would be worth it for your PC.

It has a PCI express 2.0 slot, can I insert PCI express 2.1 card on it?

It uses a FSP 300w powersupply, and would it be able to run AMD 6670 card?

thanks|||PCI Express is forward and backward compatible. Your 2.1 card will very happily work with your 2.0 slot (all you'll lose is some diagnostic/management features that you almost certainly won't use).

If you had a high quality 300W power supply, I'd have no hesitation about using the 6670. FSP sounds like a generic brand to me, so I'm not sure it will handle the 6670 under load. I'd feel comfortable with a Radeon HD 6570, but that's somewhat lower performing. (Still beats the heck out of your 4350, which isn't a gaming level card)|||That card will work in a 2.0 slot, and it recommends a 400 watt psu.|||Yes a 2.1 card will fit and work in a 2.0 slot. The cards are compatible, it is just a difference in bandwidth with 2.0,2.1 and 3.0 PCIe.

That 6670 requires a minimum of 400 watt PSU for a single card. Should get a little bigger for overhead.

Mac OS X upgrading video card?

I just downloaded Sims 3 onto my iMac 5 and am having issues with the graphics (the sims are all black and the sky is yellow). I figured out that it was because the video card I have (a Intel GMA 950) is not supported by the game and that I will need a Intel GMA X3100, an ATI X1600 or a Nvidia 7300 GT for the game to run properly. Is there any way I can upgrade the video card and if so, for how much?|||You can't upgrade a iMac unless you know a huge handful about Hardware and iMacs are more complicated to upgrade than PC's, phone Apple see if they know anything about it, if they can do it it will be a bit costy, good luck!|||In a word: no.

When you buy a mac, especially an imac, they're usually all-in-one systems that are VERY unfriendly with hardware customization. I doubt you can even find a PCI slot if you manage to open your computer up. That really blows, because Macs are so expensive...

Upgrading video card on my desktop computer?

I have a 5 year old Windows XP desktop computer (it's a Dell Dimension E310) that has an integrated video card in the motherboard(an Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset). I want to be able to be able to play the new Sims 3 game, but the only thing on my computer that needs to be upgraded for it is the video card. Because the video card is built-in, would it be better to have Best Buy put a new one in for me, or can I do it myself? If I do it myself is it only a matter of disabling the old video card and installing the new one or is it more complicated? Also: what card would you recommend for my system- ATI Radeon or a NVIDIA Geforce that is relatively inexpensive (up to $150 dollars preferably)? Thanks so much!|||Since the video card is intergrated, I would have Best Buy do the upgrade.

Get a Radeon 6570. It's the best low-profile card you'll find and is pretty darned good on power consumption.

And no, you do not have a max of 20w to be used. That's baloney. Your computer as it is will barely go over 100w under a full load.

Any single slot, low profile card will work. You don't need anything special. Hop on Newegg. They start around $70.

Looking to Upgrade Video Card, Help?

My current video card is an ATI Radeon HD 4650 which I believe is kind of outdated, I'm pretty inexperienced so I'm sorry if I slip up on something I need to be providing, but I'm not too sure on how how figure out whether or not a certain video card is compatible with my computer. I'm looking to be able to run most new games on max settings, and not pay more than 200$ for the upgrade. From what I've found, an AMD Radeon HD 6870 or 6850 looks like a nice option, but I have a few questions. First off I'd like to know whether or not I need this big of an upgrade to run games like battlefield 3 on max, and secondly I'd like to know if it's compatible with my computer. In terms of my specs since I'm assuming they're needed, I'm not sure which to give out so I'll just give out some that I know of:

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 661 @ 3.33GHz, 3334 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical

If there's anything else I need to add please just let me know and I'll get on it. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.|||The 6850 would be a nice upgrade for you but it won't play BF3 on maximum settings. For that you'd need to shell out a little more and get the 6950.

What i need to know from you is what type of power supply you have because if you upgrade to a 6950 then you need at least 500W or greater.

EDIT: Unlike almost all of the components inside your computer, there is no software that you can download which will tell you the specs of your power supply. There are only two ways of finding out what the specs of your power supply are. One is to take the side panel off your case and simply reading the sticker that is on the side of the power supply itself.

The only other way is to check any receipt that you may have which has the PSU on it or, if you have a pre-built computer like a Dell or an HP or something, google the exact model name & number and seeing online what the power specs of that model are.

Just open up the side of the case and read the sticker on the PSU. It's not hard. And in any case, if you were to upgrade your video card and power supply, you'd have to open it anyway, right?

EDIT: Coolermaster is a very good brand. They make quality stuff and that's great because the power supply is one thing that you don't want a cheap and nasty one of.

460W is a little low for the high end cards that are capable of running modern games on maximum settings. If you look on this page, and for each card on the left, click 'system requirements' you will see that most of the higher end cards require 500W or greater. http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/g…

Your 460W PSU does not meet the power requirements of the best performing cards. If you were to NOT replace the 460W power supply then you are limited to the 6770 at best.

The 6770 is only capable of playing the latest games on medium settings.

If you want the 6870 then you'll need to upgrade the power supply to 500W or greater.

EDIT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You are right in saying that 6700+ is a big upgrade from 4650. The 4650 is a low end card and frankly, i'm extremely surprised that you say it runs Skyrim on high, especially since the Skyrim recommended system requirements state a minimum 4890 to run it well. Look here http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/10/26/the-el…

Perhaps you are running it on a very low resolution. Or perhaps when you say high settings you are forgetting AA and AF.

I don't know which article you read which said that the 6850 can run on 450W. The figure of 500W minimum for the 6850 comes straight from the AMD website (the people who make the card) http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/g…

I'd trust what they have to say over some random article. Bear in mind that over time, a power supply, due to capacitor aging, loses some of it's maximum capacity. If your power supply is over a year old and has been used moderately, then chances are, it will not still be able to deliver the posted 460W reliably anymore.|||EDIT: You can't. Just open it up and look for a black box sitting in a corner, it'll have a number like 350W and a name

Can you check your PSU brand and wattage?

Be careful upgrading videocard without looking at your PSU, if it's a cheap, crap one, it'll burn up your parts

You need to put at least 250 if you want to run BF3 at max,

Try sapphire radeon 6950

Upgrade video card on Presario...?

I have a Compaq Presario SR 5143 desktop. I know it's past it's prime, but I do want to upgrade the processor (currently AMD Athlon 64) and the video card (currently Nvidia Geforce 6150). Anyone have any ideas what processors and cards that are better that would fit on it's motherboard?|||For 3D games, upgrading the graphics would give you the best bang for your buck because your current integrated graphics is too weak for gaming. Your PC supports PCIe graphics. Consider installing the ATI Radeon HD 5570. It is a decent 39 watt graphics card. It won't stress your PC's power supply or your wallet. It can also handle many games at medium to high settings at medium resolution. More powerful cards may require you to upgrade your PC's power supply too.

If you are really inclined to upgrade processor too, fastest that could be supported is the Athlon 64 X2 5600+.|||The Nvidia chipset you indicated definitely supports PCI Express. Other variants of the Presario 5143 has the x16 PCIe graphics slot. If that slot is missing, the variant you may have could have been a budget or business PC variant.

Is there any and i mean ANY possible way to upgrade video card in laptop?

please answer i need to know|||if it's intergrated, the only way to ever get a new video card is if the laptop is large and you get a new motherboard AND video card. but seriously, its not worth the risk accidentally breaking your computer, then getting another one. so, just get another one|||It depends on the model. as far as creating a gaming computer goes you are much much better off making your own. gaming computers are very personal and HAVE to match all your desires.

as for a card look for 8800 it is getting cheaper everyday (i know one for 300$, it used to be 800 a month ago). I worth the extra money.|||NVIDIA is the most awesome graphics card brand. However, it is a bit more pricey because it's so good. For 175 you can buy yourself a solid card... 256mb or maybe even a low speed 512.

Go to Amazon.com and type in "NIVIDIA", you'll see a large variety of cards in your price range.

You did not give enough information. We need to know the following: 1. Do you have a PCIE slot? How many pins? 2. What is your power supply like? 3. And no, you can't upgrade your video card to that.|||hey there only few laptops that have video cards that can be replaced majority of them the cards are integrated that means it is part of the motherboard therefore it cannot be remove/replaced. Worth It to upgrade video card?

Hello I was thinking about purchasing a new video card (currently have a nvidia 8600gt and thinking about something like a GTX 460) but I only have a 775 socket motherboard and it only has a regular PCI express X16 slot in it and the GTX 460 can take up to a PCI 2.0.

Just curious if it would even be worth it to put in the new video card since it will be restricted by the motherboard. The hope that I had was that it would be a upgrade and that when I decided to purchase a new motherboard I could just switch it over and maybe even double it up.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.|||The old 8600gt doesn't even come close being able to fully saturate your bandwidth even on gen1 pcie bus. Almost any video card available would be a noticable improvement. 1. Before you spend 100$ on a new videocard, try using this mod to make oblivion work http://oldblivion.com/

Its a patch that will make oblivion run on older computers. Ive tested it with 2 old computers already.

It wont look as good as the normal oblivion but the difference is not very far, just less lighting and crap water animation.

2. If you decide to get a new videocard anyway,

all Nvidia geforce higher than 9800GT can run oblivion at max settings.

Look inside your CPU and check if there is at least 10 inches space for the length of the new videocard.

Most Geforce cards are 8 inches or 10 inches.

3. ATI cards are shorter and will surely fit your CPU casing, ATI HD 4830 can max oblivion graphics.

4. If you just want to play oblivion at medium settings, just dish out 50$ to get a geforce 9500gt or ATI counterpart. But that card might not be able to handle future games like Elderscrolls V.

A few years back I could go to the store and request an upgrade, you gave them your video card paid the price difference and got a new card. Where can I do that in Romania or anywhere else?|||Upgrades were a nice marketing tool some years back when Nvidia cards could be priced high (w/ high margin) because ATI cards were not competitive in performance. But now, ATI was able to raise the level of performance and efficiency of their cards but priced their products competitively. Nvidia was forced to compete on price rather than marketing gimmicks like the easy upgrades before.|||Idk, but if I were you I'd wait a few months until the prices drop a little. Besides, what can one gtx480 not handle? :P

Want to upgrade video card, dont know if I can.?

I have a toshiba laptop and have been running flight simulator and recently tried to download the acceleration pack for it.Says I need shader compatable card to run. Can I upgrade my laptop card or what are my options?|||On a lot of lap tops the video us built right in to

Upgrading video card?

# GeForce 2, 2 GTS

# GeForce 3, 3 Ti

# GeForce 4, 4 Ti, 4200, 4600, 4800, MX 420, 440, 460

# GeForce FX 5200, 5500, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950

# S3 GammaChrome

# S18 Pro

# S18 Ultra Intel(R) Extreme Graphics (see note below)

82865, 82915 and above

NOTE: If you have a non-T&L capable video card, such as Intel Extreme Graphics, then you need at least a 2.4 GHz processor.

What card do you recommend? How much will it be? Would it be best if I went to a place to upgrade it?|||i recommend you get something from Nvidia Geforce 7600 and higher.

A 7300 would do fine for the sims 2, coze that's what i'm running but if you're going to ungrade, might as well give yourself some power room for future games. I reckon a Geforce 6800 GTX would do the trick too.

I have the 7300 and I'm going for the 8800 GT as it is the best graphics card in terms of power vs price. It's quite powerful, yet it doesn't break the bank with it's 200$ price tag(if you shop around, you can get it for 150-new). High end radeon cards go up to 400$.

one thing you need to remember is that a high end video card often requires a better power supply unit or PSU. A 8800 will need at least a 400watt PSU otherwise you run the risk of crashing and/or shortening the lifespan of your computer's components. Often overlooked is that you also need a specific number of amps on the +12volt rail also. Thats a little too in-depth, so do some research yourself or go to an expert in the store.

To recap, go for a nvidia card, since those cards work best for 3d gaming, and they've been used since forever for gaming PCs like the alienware series.

Before buying, check in store or on internet to see if you will also need to upgrade your PSU. Allow room in your budget for a new PSU costing up to 100$ dollars. If you buy a psu in store, it can cost even more.

PS: before buying, either open up your case, or search on internet to find out what kind of graphics card interface your motherboard has. AGP, PCI or PCI-E. AGP cards will be cheaper as it is older technology. If indeed your motherboard is AGP, then you're in luck(or unlucky, however you'd like to see it), you'll be able to a get a good card, for as little as 100$ and it'll be quite a good card too.

Bestbuy would be a good place if you're not computer savvy. Or a computer shop, but go to a reputable one. Can't give any info because I dunno which aprt of the world you're in.

Radeon cards were primarily for video/DVD/movie playing. only recently did they optimize newer models for gaming. I find that their cards are usually slightly more expensive for the same amount of computing power.|||I'd recommend the ATI Radeon series. I have a 9550 and it runs the Sims 2 perfectly. It only costs around 100 bucks, which is pretty good for a decent card, and I got it at BestBuy, and had them install it for me. Besides, you know ATI is quality because Nintendo (at least used to in the Gamecube days) uses them in their systems.

Upgrading Video Card on Mac?

I have a mac that I downloaded TF2 on, which has a minimum requirement of a NVIDIA GeForce 8 or ATI X1600. I bought my mac a few years ago, so it has an Intel GMA X3100. Is there a way to upgrade the card itself to increase its abilities, or do I have to buy another card? If the latter, what would be a capable card for a college student with minimum wages? Thanks.|||There's no way to upgrade the graphics card on any laptop, Mac or Windows. First of all, you have an integrated graphics card. It's not actually a separate chip, it's a part of the motherboard. Second, if you were to try to upgrade the card, you'd have to pull the whole computer apart.

Question about upgrading video card, processor and memory?

I have an HP Pavilion a6000 running on Vista(32bit) with Intel Core Duo 4300s at 1.8GHzeach, and 1014 MB RAM with a 290 G hard drive, plus an 80G external. The video card is an Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family. Basically, I have a stock system here.

I am seriously considering the processors, memory capacity, and video card of my computer. I am not all that computer savvy, soo any help would be appreciated. Are there any wizards out there who could give me some free advice on some good products?

Thanks a million!|||wow, so many options, ok first of get a 8800gt,(best for money, for high end) all the 8800gt cards use the same chip, so whatever manufactuer you go with is up to you, i usually just go with the cheapest...(try newegg.com its the best ever..) as for prosessor, thats usally not the bottleneck in the computer, i would say upgrade that last, as a card and memory update will be way more effective in improving performance. as for the memory, i would duoble it to 2024 megibite. if you dont know exatically what type of ram you have , go to Cruisal.com, they sell ram, and even have a feature that will detect what ram you have and tell you what you need exatically, pretty usefull. oh and chech thsi out. http://www.tomshardware.com/ go there, and scoll halfway down, you will see a section on the right sidethat says "vga charts, cpu charts, ex" check those out, you can compare every GPU and CPU on the market today very easilly, so you can see the price/speed ratios for yourself.. ok im done know, but check that stuff out.|||yea add more ram, beta CPU, geta 8600 GT card. Upgrading video card with PCI or PCI Express?

Hi--

I've got a slightly older computer I'm upgrading. Bottom line, will a video card rated as PCI Express 2.0 work in a plain PCI E slot? [I know it won't even fit in a regular PCI slot].|||yes, PCI-e 2.0 is backward compatible with PCI-e 1.0/1.1|||Yes. PCI-e 2.0 is compatible with 1.0 in all combinations. Every PCI-e 2.0 /x16 card is also a PCI-e 1.0 x16 card because it fully complies with the PCI-e 1.0 x16 specification.

Upgrading Video Card soon....?

I'm making a rather large upgrade soon to a new video card....I currently have the HP Elite 410f. It has an AMD phenom II x6 1045T 2.7 GHz, 8 GB RAM, and currently the ATI Radeon HD 5570.

I'm just going to assume Battlefield 3 is going to be multi-core, so the CPU shouldn't be a problem, and the RAM is plenty, what that leaves left is the video card.

I'm planning on getting the nVidia GTX 560 Ti just to future proof it for a little bit without breaking the bank. Which power supply would you recommend? I was thinking about getting a Corsair Gamer Enthusiast 750 watt. If this is too much, any recommendations for something smaller and cheaper would be appreciated.

I've already measured the case and everything should fit, but I'm just curious about the power, and if will even work on this computer.

Also, when upgrading video card brands from AMD to nVidia, what happens with the drivers? Do I need to install them first and then put in the video card or vice-versa?

Thanks in advance!

-Alex.|||Corsair TX750 is a great PSU but you shouldn't need more than 600W for a 560 Ti

I'd recommend to install the drivers after you install the GPU.|||Install the divers after the hardware, always after the hardware. If you install before you take the old one out you will have the wrong drivers for the wrong graphics card|||Power supply Guide ...

External USB video card.?

do they exist? or is there a usb to pci converter? my goal is to upgrade video card on laptop but it is built in chip-set so impossible by normal methods. just seeing if this was a viable alternative.|||this type of thing maybe?|||There is only one solution like this that exists. Can I upgrade video card for Acer Aspire 5520 from GeForce 8600m Gs to nvidia 8800gt? or other video card?

What you want is so easy to do on desktop PC but almost impossible on laptops. There are no retail internal graphics cards for laptops because most have no expansion/upgrade option at all. A few laptops may have an upgrade option but the card is usually a proprietary one.|||No,

Even though the 8600m GS is a discrete pci-e mini, there is no 8800mGT, and if there was your laptop would require a 130W PSU which I doubt it has.

I want to upgrade video card but idk if i can?! HELP~~?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…

thats the video card i want to buy but.

i have a HP slimline comp. model #: s3200n

it says i need a 6-pin connector but idk if my power supply can support it because its so jammed pack in there i can't see much. also

it says this on the HP site "The chassis supports two low profile expansion cards. The type of cards supported is determined by the motherboard. Card sizes should be about 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide by 3 inches (7.6 cm ) tall or less."

so will this fit? and is there anyway to find a connector pin in there?

also if this doesn't fit what will?

THANKS! (free 10 points for good answer)|||ok for that particular case you're sol.

The standard PS doesn't support the 6 pin connector.and the supply doesn't have additional connectors for expansion.

there's a good picture, at this link,

You'll need to upgrade the case and PS to use that type of card. sorry.

well got the sims game couldn't play it need new video card.... the box says it needs a Nvidia GeForce series:FX 5900 or greater does anyone know a universal place like walmart or best buy that i could get a video card like this????|||As you *did* ask this in laptops / notebooks section... Just beware that laptops and notebooks do NOT have upgradeable video. In other words, you can't upgrade / update the video in a laptop or notebook.

There are exceptions, but only with VERY expensive high-end boutique machines like Alienware, Voodoo, and so on machines.|||www.newegg.com is the best place to look. Make sure you get the right kind of card for your motherboard. It will either take AGP or PCI-E. Also, dont get just the minimum it will barely play the game. Heres what i recommend:

Upgrading video card?

I have a PCIexpress 2.0 x 16 slot and can I put a PCIexpress 1.0 x 16 graphic card in it?

(Optional Question) Also which graphic card is better:

ATI Radeon X1950PRO 512 MB

or the

GeForce GT 430 1024MB

I like the Radeon because it has a higher score on http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_li…|||PCI is backwards compatible so yes you can,

personally i would prefer the GeForce, mainly because i dont like ATI as well AMD, and i'd prefer 1024 MB on ram above 512 MB of ram, but if it has higher benchmarks then who am i to say you shouldnt.|||Your question is a bit confusing... your motherboard has a PCI 2.0 x16 and your card is a PCI 1.0 x16 or your motherboard has a PCI 2.0 x16 and you want to put the card into a PCI 1.0 x16?

Any way just you should know you always put the graphic cards into a PCIx16, also the PCI 1.0 I think is a bit outdated, newer card have either 2.0 or 2.1 (which is more or less the same), and yes you could.

Optional Question:

In this case (although I like ATI) I'll go with the GeForce GT 430 1GB since it has more RAM than the ATI|||I have used both brands and found that you get better with nVIDIA who make GeForce. The Radeon you are looking at is a discontinued model. Both have built in fans on them and the GeForce fan is much larger and easier to clean than the ones Radeon uses. Which ever one you use you need to clean once a month with air in a can and do so carefully. I threw away a Radeon that cost $300 because the fan became so clogged with dust that it caused the computer to freeze and I could not get all the dust out of it do to it having such a small fan.

That being said I have an iMac 27" with a ATI Radeon HD 4850 as it was more powerful than the nVIDIA that was available and I have yet to have any problems with the Radeon card this time around.|||Well, depending on your power supply, and case (saying that you already have this information understood)...You CAN put a 1.0 x16 in a 2.0 x16 slot, but you won't get any boost in performance...as far as what I think you're trying to do, which is getting a liiiiittlle more bump out of your system, go with the Radeon...unless you have an intel processor, then go with the GeForce...|||Your Passmark chart is not reliable. It is only of vague accuracy since the scores are all user submitted and doesn't take factors from many different systems into consideration sych as:

Which CPU it is paired with

How much RAM it is paired with

Does it have new or old drivers?

Is the card overclocked?

Is it bottlenecked by another component?

I'd go with the 430 or even better with a 450/460|||What? Has a pciexpress 2.0 x 16 slot?? Who has a pciexpress 2.0 x 16 slot in the first place??

hi , I just recieved a ATI radeon HD 2400 pro card for christmas. I am not a computer gamer , and unfortuantly the hp 1203 does not have a pci -express slot. so what should i do? buy another used comp? (200-300 dollars) or return the card and buy a agp card?(which one?) or maybe even change the motherboard? not really sure.

all im looking for is to watch movies and video clips on my 56 hd tv. no gaming at all. thanks!!!|||exchange the card with a agp card, get a simler ati in the agp form, than you will be set. Upgrade video card for laptop?

Hello.

I have the laptop Acer 5100.

Weak video card (ati mobility radeon x1100)

I was wondering if I could buy a more powerful card and replace it where the card has.

If so, what cards can I upgrade?

If I can not then what laptop I can replace their video card?

I need a recommendation for cheaps laptops that I will can upgrade their video card|||Laptop computers are popular with people of all computing habits, from casual users to hardcore gamers.

If not, then you may have to pay an additional fee to have the laptop manufacturer send a technician to install the video card for you.|||Nope, you can't. And there are no cheap laptops with upgradeable video cards. If you want a gaming laptop, you have to buy one.

Just make sure your PSU (power supply) can handle it. Couldn't find any information on the newegg site, but if you have at least a 6 pin and an 8 pin (or preferebly 2x 6+2 (modular)) PCI-E power connectors, you'll be fine.

It's usually DEL, but it could be something else. When your computer is starting up, pay attention to what it says and look for the "Hit <key> to enter setup." Hit that key to get into your BIOS. Your BIOS will have temperature information in it somewhere. Just look around until you find it. If memory serves me correctly, the Athlon processors should be running right around 100° F. Need help with upgrading video card.?

I have a Compaq Presario SR2170NX. Its not even close to a good computer. What I want to do is up the graphics card to maybe an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS or something along the lines of the ($50 - $80). But the problem is I only have a 350W PSU. Any ideas? Do I have to upgrade the PSU? And what should I do about the video card?

Thanks! (:|||The 8800GTS has high wattage (~100W if G92 and more if older G80 chip). The 8800GT/9800GT (both have the G92 chip) would draw less power. If you want serious gaming, do not let the power supply restrict your upgrade.

Your 350W power supply would just be good for a 9500GT.|||I believe the recommended power supply for newer, higher end video cards is at least 400-500+ watts. 350w maybe not enough to power the video card efficiently.

Intel does not make "real" video cards. They make crappy integrated graphic controllers so they can sell a computer at low cost.

I can't tell you what video card to buy without knowing your budget and available expansion slots. You should call your computer's manufacturer or check their website to see what your available slots are. Any video card you buy should be made by either ATI or Nvidia(Geforce). Anything else is garbage.

That Intel crap is built into your motherboard so it must be disabled before upgrading. To do this start your computer in safe mode. Right click my computer, click properties, device manager, display adapters, right click the intel graphics controller and click disable. Then turn off your computer and install your new video card.

First of all, for those who have this thought "buy a new computer", please do not answer.

I am using this old pc - pent 3 450 mhz, 512 ram and 4 video ram as experimentying avi file clear, no problem, (a little slow when playing rmvb file), so I went ahead and upgrade my other old video card - pci which is 8 mg ram, but it turned out to be worse?

Why is that? Is it the card or my motherboard/cpu can't handle it? I am thinking of upgrading 256mb ram, but after I tested that out, I don't know if I should upgrade to 256mg video ram if my cpu/motherboard can't handle it|||was your old video card agp or pci, if it was agp and this one is pci then it will naturally be alot slower regardless of how much memory it has on it. pci is not good as a graphics interface even at 256mb level. and remember more memory and "newer" card not necessarily better faster card the gpu and ddr speed are waaaay more important. if you have an agp slot be sure to use that should be a brown color slot

How can I determine if a upgrade video card (example geforce 8800) is compatible for a desktop computer?

I have a Dell XPS 400 desktop (Windows XP), and trying to upgrade from nVidia GeForce 7900GS (256MB)|||becareful buying an after market card for dell they are very propiretary but make sure it has the power to drive a big video card if by default it does not have the support for a 6pin or 8 pin pciEx video chances are it will not have the snot needed to run it yes you can buy converter power cords but it has just usually enough to run what was put in the case

anything extra maybe to much stress on it

hps for example have 230 watt psu and most 350-700 watt supplies dont fit

i know dell rewires their power supplies special and an off the shelf psu will nuke the motherboard

there are companies that build after market dell power supply units you might want to consider upgrading it|||It's kinda complicated so I'll explain briefly. You first have to figure out what type of card you're going to need, for example pci, pci x16, or AGP. The reason why is that different computers have different slots that would alow a specific card to be inserted into it so if you buy a wrong card you might have to return it and get the correct one. After that you can go and look for them online or at a store. Make sure that you do not mistaken PCI with PCI x16 or PCI Express 2.0 x16 because they are not the same. And since you have a Dell XPS 400 desktop I believe your slot would be a PCI x 16. I would recommend going to newegg.com for your shopping because their graphic cards are inexpensive and they're service is excellent.|||yeah just make sure you got a good power supply and room in your case for it and it appears you do. your power supply i would recommend be at least 500 watts some would argue with that but it's plenty of power especially in intel based systems where your vid card requires more power than the processor of course most powerful cards even require more than amd's even these days. also amperage output on your rail for your vid card supplemental power plug can affect it too gut given your system you should be good to go.|||you hav a PCI-E slot so all you have to worry about is having sufficient power for something like the 8800 GS you might want at least 350W but for something like 8800 GTX you would want 450W(make sure the psu fits)|||If you're using a GeForce 7900GS, then there's no doubt that you're able to upgrade to future GPUs. All modern cards today use a PCI-E slot, which is what you have. Just make sure you have sufficient power.

DIMENSION 4600 UPGRADE VIDEO CARD?

Dimension 4600 with agp x8 geforce fx 5200

2G memory

160 G HDD

Want to upgrade video card. Any suggestions besides telling me to get new computer!|||hi there

your actual pc isnt that bad.. with 2gb of ram and a 160gb hard drive... however your power supply is your problem since 250w isnt powerful enough for most decent graphic cards however for around £90 i can recommend you a good agp x8 video card with a power supply that will be enough to power the card

the card im recommending is the HIS IceQ H467QS1GHA Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… ) .. and this is one of the best agp cards you can still buy... it has a 750mhz core clock and 1gb of gddr3 memory running at 1600mhz ddr effective.... theres also a 128bit memory interface and 320 stream processors

in regards to performance this will run most of the latest games however at medium detail and resolution... and compared to your geforce fx5200 its around 4 times as fast

if you want something a little cheaper then check out the "GIGABYTE GV-R465D2-1GI Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X HDCP Ready Video Card"( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… ) ... not as powerful as the HD4670 but alot better than your fx5200

as i mentioned you will also need a better power supply.... however for just $39 you can get the reliable "RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular LED Power Supply"( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… ) ... this is powerful enough for both the cards i have recommended and has dual +12v rails with 37A total ... more than enough for most video cards

the problem is there are less and less agp cards around these days as manufactuers prefer to make pci-express cards and nvidia agp cards are near enough non existent !

anyway i hope this helps, any questions let me know

good luck !|||Do you know what you want? If you do, will it work in your computer? One area to check if your computer is a Big Box Store product is the memory and the power supply. They put minimal power for what you get right out of the box. I went from 512MB to 1GB RAM one time and my power supple wouldn't allow me to boot! It was an HP machine with limited room for a new PSU but I got one taking my power from 200W to 340W. The 340W is still too small for today's computers. I'm dead in the water toward adding anything else to that particular computer. It is going to my wife.

It is going to be hard to find a new AGP card. It's a dead format. If you wait a few years they'll be cheap, but right now they are premium priced. If you opt to spend the money, get the memory and the power supply also. You might want to get the memory and try it for a few weeks. That may help your performance enough that you don't have to go any further. If not, you aren't out anything but a little bit of time.

Good luck, neospar

Upgrading Video Card for Guild Wars.?

I would like to upgrade my videocard so that I can play Guild Wars. I run on an '04 system and I have 1.25gigs of RAM, does anyone recommend anything?|||'04 System eh, what kind of video card are you using? AGP or PCI Express? I think anything from Geforce 7300 and up will do a good job on Guild Wars. I don't think you will need anything higher than that. You might as well get a new system if you going to spend over $100.|||Guild wars doesnt require to much power for a graphics card, think about getting something like a nvidia 7300GS or an Ati x1650 or something.

If its an AGP slot you wont generally find as much choice, and they will generally cost more as less are made and demanded.

But if you have a PCI-E slot, depending how much you have to spend.. you could think about getting a direct x 10 card, but that will be spending abit more..

Not knowing where you from, i can't really price anything or direct you to any useful online retailers..

And also, graphics cards require a fair bit of power, and if you havnt got a big enough power supply you might have to upgrade that and it might be worth just investing in a new pc sooner or later.|||Guild wars is really a huge game, you must pay much time on it, and at the sametime you should pay for it.

if you want to find some of these website ,there are some. hope it is useful.
