Hello I was thinking about purchasing a new video card (currently have a nvidia 8600gt and thinking about something like a GTX 460) but I only have a 775 socket motherboard and it only has a regular PCI express X16 slot in it and the GTX 460 can take up to a PCI 2.0.
Just curious if it would even be worth it to put in the new video card since it will be restricted by the motherboard. The hope that I had was that it would be a upgrade and that when I decided to purchase a new motherboard I could just switch it over and maybe even double it up.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.|||The old 8600gt doesn't even come close being able to fully saturate your bandwidth even on gen1 pcie bus. Almost any video card available would be a noticable improvement. A decent midrange card will show enough improvement to let you wait on a more complete upgrade.|||You should upgrade the motherboard, DDR3 ram is pretty cheap these days, and you would benefit from not having a bottleneck.|||if you have $690 hands down get the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 you could never go wrong also if you like battlefield 3 that card can run it at a good 80-100 frames depending on the prosseser
